Coffee farm visitFrom crop to cup demonstrationKilimanjaro foothill agricultureLocal host

Drive from Moshi to a coffee-growing village on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Coffee is one of the important crops grown in the fertile foothill zone alongside bananas, beans, maize and other household crops. On arrival, meet the local host and walk through the farm area while learning how coffee plants are cultivated and cared for.

The stage of the crop depends on the season, so fresh cherries may not always be available, but the demonstration explains the complete process from the plant to the cup. The host shows how coffee is selected, dried, roasted and prepared. A hands-on demonstration may include removing the outer covering, roasting beans over heat, pounding or grinding the roasted coffee and brewing it in the local style.

The experience is not only about tasting coffee: it also provides context on small-scale farming, mixed crops, irrigation and household food production on the Kilimanjaro foothills. Finish with a cup of freshly prepared coffee and time to speak with the host. A village walk or local lunch can be included when stated in the confirmed booking.

Return to Moshi later in the afternoon.
